New EP Released – Strike Anywhere

December 2, 2013 by SB

We are happy to announce the release of our first EP:

Strike Anywhere

You can stream it fo free, or download it for whatever price you see fit. If you’re one of those people that still likes a physical CD, we’ve got 300 pretty Strike Anywhere matchbook EPs, and we’ll sell you one for $5.  You can either contact us, pick one up in person, or at get one at our next show.

Also, many thanks to all the friends that came to our album release party last Friday. The party was supposed to be at the non-profit art collective and music venue, The Big Top, but they ended up getting shut down last minute and canceling our show. It was pretty weak. It quickly became apparent that we had no choice but to move the party to our house.

We were a tad concerned that our 80 year old neighbor Bob Patience (his name really is Bob Patience) would call the cops because he couldn’t sleep…he has threatened to do so for less. But we ended up kickin out the jams until about 1130, an hour and a half past noise ordinances, and the cops were never called. Extra thanks to Bob for keeping his patience. Not like NOPD really would do anything anyway…

All in all, it ended up being dope. The dudes from Autotomii even brought lazers and a smoke machine, which made it at least 10x more epic. Hopefully we will have a few pictures soon.

In the meantime, have a listen to the new EP. Share it if you like it. Buy it if you really like it.

Upcoming Show – Circle Bar – Friday Oct 4th

September 27, 2013 by somethingburningband

Happy to announce that we’re gonna be playing a show at Circle Bar with a Swedish ambient pop band called Siren Sea next Friday, Oct. 4th!

Its safe to say its been a while since our last show. With all the logistics of getting our upcoming EP finished (recording, mixing, mastering, producing, etc…) we haven’t been able to play live a long time. We’re happy to say that the EP is done now, although we still need to get the physical CDs shipped. Hopefully we’ll have them in a month or so. Anyway, the lack of playing live has been eating away at us, so we are happy to finally get back out and play for some real people.

We have been working up a lot of new material, and also now have a new drummer. Our old drummer, Pepe, unfortunately had to part ways with us to follow a more business oriented career path. We are sad to have lost Pepe, who was a great friend and musician. However, we were fortunately able to fill his shoes with another talented drummer named Cairon, who currently studies jazz performance at University of New Orleans.

We hope you will come out to Circle Bar on Friday and experience some of our new sounds.

-Set starts at 10pm, and there is a $5 cover-

A Night with Something Burning @ The Old US Mint

March 19, 2013 by somethingburningband

Join us for a night of eclectic rock music in a beautiful venue at the Old US Mint performance hall. Its right on Esplanade across the street from Dragon’s Den.

The Mint is largely a museum, but it also has a nice intimate concert space on the 3rd floor that has great video/sound recording capabilities.

We are looking forward to getting some good live footage, so come on out and get yourself in our next video!

By the way, This is a FREE EVENT, open to all ages.

Bring your friends and family.

Doors are at 8. We will be starting at 9pm, so get there early. Its not a late night show, so either you can go home fairly early, or go out to Frenchman Street afterwards and see some more Live music! (We recommend the second option)

Hard at work

February 25, 2013 by somethingburningband

This past Saturday was a very long day in the studio.

I am happy to say that we’re making good progress on the upcoming EP.

Gotta give a lot of credit to PJ. He has been acting as our engineer while also playing on all of the songs. This time around, he got to the studio extra early to set up mics and get the session ready all by himself. I then had to gather the troops (“the Stang” and Pepe) while he set up the studio (which, by the way, is no task to be overlooked).

We have come to recognize at this point that studio sessions always take longer than expected to get started. So in a way, it was expected that the session wouldn’t actually start rolling until close to 4pm, almost four hours after PJ got there to set up. It was a good thing we had the studio booked until midnight. We managed to get a rough tracks of 6 songs in the next 7 or so hours, and ended up getting out of the studio around 10:30 or 11.

It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. This is going to be the first official EP that we’ve released. Believe me, we want to share our hard work with you, but we will have to wait until the time is right. Not until the music is perfect (or as close as we can get it). There is no doubt that the EP will be ready for y’all by the end of this semester, but we are hoping for mid to late April.

Something Burning is also planning on playing a show or two before our release party. We will give more updates when the details on this stuff are official. Keep a look out for an upcoming show in March!
